$300.00

Set of replacement PCBs for AMPEX 351 electronics.

These are designed for replacing damaged, missing, or faulty boards that can be found within a 351.

They may also be used to build a 351 from scratch.

SKU: 501

Description

These boards are designed to be drop-in replacements for those found inside of AMPEX 351 electronics (with minor modifications required). They may also be used to build a 351 preamplifier from scratch.

The boards use the exact same circuits as the originals and can be used in a complete tape recorder if desired.

All boards are double sided, fiberglass, through-hole plated, and use screw-style terminal blocks instead of the original, unreliable fast-on connectors. Footprints are designed for modern components available from current suppliers.

An accompanying 17-page document is included that has various notes on how the boards may be used. It contains all the schematic diagrams and a basic bill of materials for each board.

The set includes:

  • 501-001 Record Amplifier Board
  • 501-002 Reproduce Amplifier Board
  • 501-003 Power Supply Board
  • Full documentation for the boards, including notes, schematic diagrams, BOMs

This set is intended for those who have a basic understanding of electronics and the dangers associated with high voltage circuits. This is not a kit – it is a tool to aid a technician in the restoration of AMPEX 351 units and the creation of custom microphone preamplifiers. There will be limited customer support as the documentation contains all the necessary information required for the use and installation of this product. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

The boards are sold as a set and are supplied unpopulated. No components are included.

  1. This is most excellent! I’ve done or four repair on one of these decks and the original card edge pin connector scenario was an extremely bad design. I get it they make it so it’s Field serviceable but….. man that was a majority of the issues the deck was having.
